Texas Trash Dip

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Ground Beef:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it’s browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Season the Beef:
    • Add the taco seasoning to the beef along with a splash of water (about 1/4 cup, or as directed on the seasoning packet). Stir to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the seasoning to fully incorporate into the beef. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Cream Cheese Layer:
    • In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream. Mix well until smooth and creamy. If the cream cheese is hard to mix, you can microwave it for 15-20 seconds to soften it further.
  4. Assemble the Dip:
    • In a 9×9-inch baking dish (or a similar size casserole dish), spread the cream cheese mixture evenly on the bottom of the dish.
    • Layer the seasoned ground beef mixture on top of the cream cheese layer.
    • Spoon the salsa evenly over the beef layer.
    • Sprinkle the diced green chilies over the salsa.
  5. Add the Cheese:
    • Top with a mixture of shredded cheddar and Mexican blend cheeses, spreading them evenly over the top.
  6. Bake the Dip:
    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Bake the dip for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish and Serve:
    • Once out of the oven, top the dip with sliced jalapeños, black olives, and chopped green onions (if using).
    • Serve hot with tortilla chips, tortilla scoops, or fresh veggies like carrots and celery for dipping.
