Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the thinly sliced beef and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned. If the beef is too thick, you can cook it in batches.
Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Add the sliced onions (and bell peppers, if using) to the pan and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until they soften and become fragrant.
Optionally, add Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture for extra flavor. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
2. Prepare the Crescent Roll Dough:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Unroll the crescent roll dough on a large baking sheet, arranging the triangles in a circle with the wide ends overlapping in the center. Leave the pointy ends of the dough pointing outward, forming a « ring. »
Press the overlapping dough at the center together to create a stable base.
3. Assemble the Crescent Ring:
Spread a thin layer of cream cheese in the center of the crescent dough (optional for creaminess).
Evenly distribute the cooked beef, onion, and bell pepper mixture over the dough, staying within the center ring.
Top the beef mixture with shredded or sliced provolone cheese, ensuring it’s spread evenly across the filling.
4. Fold and Seal the Dough:
Carefully fold the pointy ends of the crescent roll dough over the filling, tucking them under the center of the ring. The dough should now encircle the filling, but with the center left open.
If there are any gaps or spaces, pinch the dough together to seal it and prevent the filling from spilling out.
5. Brush with Egg Wash:
Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the dough to give it a golden, shiny finish when baked.
6. Bake the Crescent Ring:
Bake the crescent ring in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and fully cooked.
Keep an eye on the baking process and check the dough for doneness, as oven temperatures can vary.
7. Serve:
Once baked, remove the Philly Cheese Steak Crescent Ring from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
Slice into wedges and serve with a side of marinara sauce or extra Worcestershire sauce for dipping
