Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sloppy Joes

Instructions:

1. Brown the ground beef:

  • In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked (about 6-8 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed.

2. Sauté the onions and garlic:

  • Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the ground beef and cook for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.

3. Add the Dr. Pepper and other ingredients:

  • Pour in the Dr. Pepper, then stir in the barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar (if using), and smoked paprika.
  • Stir everything together and bring to a simmer.

4. Simmer the sauce:

  • Let the mixture simmer over low to medium heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld together. If it becomes too thick, you can add a splash of water or Dr. Pepper to reach your desired consistency.
  • Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.

5. Serve:

  • Toast the hamburger buns lightly, if desired, then spoon the Dr. Pepper barbecue sloppy joe mixture onto the buns.
  • Top with sliced pickles, shredded cheese, or even coleslaw for extra flavor and crunch.

6. Enjoy:

  • Serve the Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sloppy Joes with your favorite side dishes like French fries, chips, or a simple salad.
